Adult orthodontic treatment at Beech Dental Practice

Treatment at any age

Visible and hidden benefits.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer only for children. Adult treatment is increasingly popular, with modern and discreet appliance options available.

Straighter teeth can enhance appearance and confidence, correct overbites, underbites and crossbites, improve the bite and reduce tooth wear. They are also easier to keep clean, reducing the likelihood of future dental problems.

Your questions answered

Adult orthodontics FAQ.

Is orthodontic treatment painful?

Having braces fitted is not painful. Some discomfort is normal during the adjustment period, but it is usually mild and temporary. We explain how to manage this while your mouth adapts.

How do I clean my brace?

Cleaning braces is not difficult, but you may need to adapt your brushing technique and spend more time on it. We take time to show you how to clean your teeth and appliance effectively.

How quickly can you see me for an emergency?

We will see you as soon as possible and are always available to give advice and resolve problems efficiently.

Am I suitable for Invisalign?

Most patients can now be treated with aligners. The answer depends on your treatment objectives, and you will decide on the best way to achieve them with our specialist orthodontist.

How will treatment affect my daily routine?

Treatment should not disrupt everyday life, although food choices may change and you may want to clean your teeth more often.

Can treatment improve my facial profile?

Orthodontic treatment alone will not substantially change the appearance of your face. If changing facial profile is one of your goals, we can discuss referral for orthognathic jaw surgery.

How do I pay for treatment?

After a deposit, the remaining balance can be spread over twelve months interest-free by direct debit or standing order. Other finance options are available on request.

Clear fixed braces

Clear and metal braces

Fixed braces attach to the outer surface of the teeth. Brackets are connected by an arch wire that gradually moves teeth into position. Modern braces are smaller and more comfortable, with clear porcelain brackets available to adult patients for greater discretion. Our orthodontist will help you choose the most suitable fixed appliance.

Lingual braces fitted behind teeth

Lingual braces

Lingual appliances work like conventional braces but sit behind the teeth, allowing treatment to continue discreetly. They are custom-made in Germany using current CAD-CAM technology. Lingual appliances do have limitations and may not be appropriate for more complex cases.

Clear orthodontic aligners

Invisalign and Spark aligners

Clear aligners are removable, digitally designed trays. Each tray is slightly different and is changed periodically so the teeth move gradually into the planned position. Aligners can suit patients of many ages and treat a wide range of orthodontic concerns. Your assessment establishes whether they are appropriate for your case.

After treatment

Post-orthodontic care and retention

Retention is a critical part of the treatment journey. We actively monitor results for at least twelve months after the active phase to help maintain lifelong results. Fixed retainers are metal wires bonded behind the front teeth, while removable retainers are normally worn at night to protect the finished position.
